  • Overview

    IPKeys Technologies is looking for a Machinist Helper in support of a program for the Naval Air Command, located at NAS Lakehurst, NJ. This is a position with the Prototype and Manufacturing Division (PMD) machine shop at NAVAIR Lakehurst.  

    Responsibilities

    Set up and operate a variety of manual machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments.  This labor category includes machinists who are precision tool makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical tools and instruments.  This opportunity is looking for someone to support setup of CNC machines, assist in blue print reading, assist in project planning, and provide cleaning support to the machine shop.

    Qualifications

    The ability to apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures is required for higher level machinists.

    • Machinists will use manual machine tools (e.g., jig borer, grinding machine, engine lathe, milling machine) to machine metal for both products and items for use as jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or metal dies or molds.
    • Work typically involves planning and performing difficult machining operations which require complicated setups or a high degree of accuracy, setting up machine tool or tools (e.g., installing cutting tools and adjusting guides, stops, working tables, and other controls to handle the size of stock to be machined; determining proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence or selecting those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts); using a variety of precision measuring instruments; and making necessary adjustments during machining operation to achieve requisite dimensions to very close tolerances. Machinists may be required to select proper coolants and cutting and lubricating oils, to recognize when tools need dressing, and to dress tools
    • Machinists may set up and operate CNC machines that are programmed by others.  This will require the ability to load programs from machine memory or an external memory device.
    • Candidates shall be proficient in the use of various measuring instruments, such as micrometers, vernier calipers, height gages and dial indicators.
    • Candidates must be able to work, read and interpret incomplete and tentative blueprints, and detailed Federal, Navy and Commercial Engineering codes and specifications.  They should be able to provide estimates for manufacture of proposed component designs from sketches and incomplete drawings to final engineering drawings.
