  • Overview

    IPKeys Technologies is seeking a VMware/ Virtualization Engineer to join our team at Army Intelligence Community (IC) in Centreville, VA. Support the Army IC customer at the highest levels in the development and implementation of doctrine and policies. Applies expertise to common user Army enterprise information systems and tactical endpoints, as well as to dedicated special purpose systems requiring specialized security features and procedures. The VMware/ Virtualization Engineer will be instrumental in ensuring categorization of the Information System (IS), selection of the baseline security controls, implementation of security controls, assessment of security controls, authorization of IS, and continuous monitoring of the IS. 

    Responsibilities

    Architecture Tasks

    • Participate in the design and implementation of a virtualization solution consisting of major VMware components in various environments.
    • Mastery level understanding of virtualization operations, best practices, processes, and technologies and ensuring the architecture is in line with various DoD 8500 series, NIST SP 800 series, DoD regulations and instructions.
    • Work closely with system administrators, developers, cyber security, and management to meet objectives and deliverables.
    • Capture and translate business needs into technical requirements, create reference architecture, create and manage timeline of build-out, identify gaps, risks, and milestones.
    • Incorporate the requirements for infrastructure (e.g. SAN, Network, DNS, DHCP, Domain Controllers, etc.) integration into the virtualization stack.
    • Ensure the virtualization solution meets VMware, industry, mission partner and NIST best practices.
    • Ensure virtualization solution integrates into cyber security monitoring, alerting and reporting tools in accordance Risk Management Framework (RMF) continuous monitoring requirements.
    • Create and maintain the design, maintenance, and update documentation.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills. Deep understanding of existing and emerging technical and nontechnical cybersecurity standards
    • Strong interpersonal and collaborations skills working in a team-oriented environment. Conducts internal training sessions to help cross functional teams understand the virtualization environment/architecture. Provides knowledge sharing and technical assistance to other team members

    Administration Tasks

    • Perform installations and configurations of hardware and software as part of the overall implementation of the approved architecture.
    • Conduct upgrades to firmware and changes to settings as deemed necessary to meet compliance and cyber security requirements.
    • Monitor, administer, and maintain vCenter modules and configurations
    • Support implementation, configuration, operations, and maintenance of VMware components to include vCenter Server, ESXi Hosts, Standard/Distributed vSwitches, vSphere Data Protection, Operations Manager, etc.
    • Implement patches and upgrades to ensure the virtualization environment in compliance with latest DISA, DoD, US-Cert, VMware, recommendations
    • Maintain responsibility of the virtualization storage VMFS data stores and LUNs
    • Analyze and execute VMware performance tuning strategies leveraging various VMware reporting tools and capabilities
    • Support daily monitoring and optimization of VM servers and hosts
    • Recommend improvements and enhancements to management of the virtualization environment
    • Develop the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and documentation on the virtualization environment
    • Identify, analyze, and resolve system failures and problems

    Qualifications

    • Experience with VMware (Openstack is highly desirable), virtualization, and software defined networks.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skill
    • Work with vSphere Web Client (Flash/Flex Client)/Web Clent (HTML5), Power CLI, SSH to perform administrative tasks of the environment.
